Morning
It was no typical Friday morning; it was a day where rather than going to have my breakfast of eggs and toast, I resorted to a break in my routine of more pork noodles! However, this small change in my day will change the course of what was to come. Throughout the course of my day, I'll get to learn 3 simple but important ways you can make change.
Afternoon
The morning was filled with standing for what's right and having the facts that justify those beliefs. Though we all have our individual opinions, everyone has their chance to justify why they believe those beliefs. As an example, two people may have conflicting thoughts and it's perfectly fine as that's how society works. However, what makes it messy is when the opposition would disagree out of spite. In the end, we stood our ground and won the vote of the board. I have to admit that I'm very new to the corporate world and this is one of many situations that would become a norm in my life here at the airline.
The day soon changed as we got some positive news that got everyone cheering. One more step to climb to becoming a player in the aviation industry. Personally, I believe in fair competition; though there are many other airlines, having another one won't necessary hurt the others, but boost the overall demand for air travel on a macro scale. It's good to be here :)
Evening
I work very closely with my boss and she teaches me valuable lessons each and every day (part of the reason why I chose not to further my studies into grad school). As someone who has rolled out os many planes, took low-cost air travel to China, and put various artists on the map, the lessons learnt is phenomenal. Another way one can make change is to establish a good working relationship. The trick is super simple and that is: to treat everyone equally. When a leader talks to those layers below them on the organizational chart, those people feel seen and appreciated. I myself experienced being on the receiving end and really, nothing feels better than employee empowerment through appreciation from upper level management.
Night
As I tuck myself in for the night, I think and reflect on the things I've learnt today. Aside from the hot tea and a nice warm blanket I'm tucked under, I'm occupied (mentally) by the fact that just anyone can make change just by having a simple belief in oneself. You just have to have that mindset that you can stand by what you do and what you're doing is the right thing for you. The very thing that can destroy you're reputation is using authority over your self-belief. What separates a good leader from a bad one is one who leads others by rationalizing their team into the thought process and having everyone move together rather than to use authority and push people around.
Good night.
