Just yesterday, Facebook founder and CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, announced to the public that Facebook will now be known as Meta. The "Metaverse" will not only have its existing social media companies like Instagram, WhatsApp, and Oculus but also to incorporate its technologies across these companies and beyond. Zuckerberg said that the aim of Meta is "to bring the metaverse to life and help people connect, find communities, and grow businesses."
To expand, Meta will incorporate virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) technologies so users can conduct social activities, game, communicate and work in a virtual environment. This "stuff of the future" change follows Facebooks many allegations over the years being the target of political banter. Most recently, an ex-employee leaked documents stating how Facebook puts profits as its priority over employee wellbeing and safety.
With the latin translation to "beyond", Meta is now a platform that enables its users to be able to use other services provided by the company without having to be a direct user to Facebook. The company also looks to report the business as two separate entities; one of which encompasses its family of social media platforms and the other would be for technological work on future platforms.
On the same day, the Facebook company changed its logo outside its headquarters at Menlo Park from a blue thumb sign into a blue, seemingly three-dimensional, infinity sign. To fully incorporate the new name as a new entity, Facebook will soon trade its shares under "$MVRS" beginning 1st December. The full keynote can be found on their website: Meta.com .
