Our Fun Rendez-Vous at Restaurant Dominic!

Waking up with a rumbling tummy means only one thing: "FEED ME". My partner recently joined me here in Malaysia from my favorite city in Canada, Vancouver. After a night of fun and a few rounds of pool, we woke up with a hunger for great food, which lead us to Restaurant Dominique.

Located downtown, Restaurant Dominic is a French casual-fine dining restaurant surrounded by a world of other great restaurants like Heritage Pizza, Osteria Gamberoni, and Joloko. Also, we made it in the nick of time before the kitchen closed. In fact, we were the last order to come out of the kitchen. Hence, we decided to go with the regular weekend brunch courses instead of the Valentino one.

A very helpful and friendly water served us that afternoon which we were busy taking pictures by the Valentino flower display set up in front of the restaurant. In fact, Stella dressed for the photo op and of course, I'm on boyfriend photography duty!

Our first course was the French style scrambled eggs, cured then roasted trout on toasted brioche along with asparagus, chanterelle mushroom fricassee, and brown butter hollandaise. The combination of the fish, eggs, and brioche created a beautiful symphony of flavors and textures. In fact, a usually funky brioche is fluffy and well-toasted here! The vegetables and hollandaise sauce complimented the dish well which was something atypical around here.

Mascarpone risotto, pacche clams and prawns, roasted barramundi, topped with grilled kale.

For the second course, the risotto would usually be a tricky part of the meal to punch flavors in while maintaining the its base taste. The puree garnished added a punch of sweetness and sourness while the prawns contributed a sweet touch of the sea while the barramundi packed a final crescendo of taste. Stella really enjoyed the barramundi too though the choice of fish wouldn't be her first anywhere else.

Finally, we ended our brunch with a pineapple carpaccio, honey and basil granita, passionfruit pulp, dehydrated raspberries. The pineapple felt, to me, slightly frozen which is perfect for the scorching weather we get here in Malaysia. Also, it's really nice to end a meal with something sweet and cold. However, I didn't consume the passionfruit pulp as I have some severe twitch when I eat something too sour.

Our afternoon brunch experience was simply pleasant thanks to great customer service and great food. Maybe we'll make it to dinner (on time) to really get a taste of the chef's fine creations.
